  While this suggestion is quite old, I think I really like this one. We kinda have them technically in the form of the shotguns as is, but actual muskets would be cool. Perhaps that could be a thing that could be given to a race that is known using muskets in fantasy as a culture trait? Dwarves are sometimes depicted using muskets for example.

  Muskets have longer range, but Reddit is packed with anti wrbx noobs memes, and noobs are acosiated with modern unsteady and this is modern ish

  Really simple and solid idea!
  
  Muskets or Blunderbuss could some of the last items a civilization unlocks. After it has learned bows and swords...

  I really like this idea because you already have shotgun. It could just be like shotguns but have longer range and only shoot one bullet or to take like two or three seconds to reload at least just one more than the shotgun
