Books Should Transfer Tech Knowledge Too
Currently (from crude observation), Languages seem to have two functions:
- Generally apply buffs/debuffs to units.
- Allow writing/reading books that have a small chance of transferring certain traits of all meta-objects.
One thing that had always bugged me in this game is that all (assume pre-beta) units seemed to telepathically hold an entire culture’s worth of culture knowledge in their heads.
Assuming tech progression will some day return, books should then be able to “teach” units certain knowledge. This transforms culture knowledge from being a static feature to a dynamic (and realistic) system that changes throughout time.
Even more compelling is that, currently, books also seem to have different ‘genres’ including: biology, friendship, royal secrets, etc. This cements the possibility of integrating books with various parts of tech, culture, and religion and other areas in the future.

If libraries get destroyed will the kingdom lose Knowledge? How many libraries would be in a kingdom, & will churches affect the tech tree?
I think if a stagering amount of kingdoms schoolers, royalty, priest, monks/people with a skills jobs die to war, disease, fammin or natural disaster skillshortages will emerge and the kingdom or cultures tech tree should be sent back. Meaning a kingdom that survived a costly battle with these conditions would likely be set back a little in the tech department. -

ElijahYes! I also made a similar suggestion. Maxim said that he removed tech progression because it didn't fit with the new culture mechanic, and that he will add it in another update. This is the perfect opportunity to create a more in-depth technological system. Units could be assigned to discover or invent new technology, and universities could even be a late-game building that allows units to gain a selection of important technologies quickly.

Sand RentalCurrently, every village is able to hold five books for every large building they own. It's not a perfect system. Additionally, the stored books seem to get permanently destroyed if a large building is destroyed or changes ownership to another village.
I really wish for books to do more, and I also wish they weren't so pathetically easy to delete from the world. In any non-peaceful world, books are often destroyed before anyone gets to read them, which effectively makes them and all their adjacent mechanics useless. -

andrewi agree. builders should have to read books, to be able to be certain things, mages read the write books, weaponsmith and armorsmiths have to read to get tech idea.
also books should be able to be made by players, books from gods. lol
